A member of the Bandidos motorcycle gang will face trial for allegedly obstructing police and possessing cocaine during an incident at Surfers Paradise in November.
Joshua Leigh Downey, the sergeant-at-arms of the Bandidos’ Gold Coast chapter, yesterday strolled into Southport Magistrates Court wearing an all-white Versace suit and heavy gold jewellery while flanked by his legal representative and a girlfriend.
The bikie boss is alleged to have been involved in a violent incident on November 3 last year where he obstructed police and was caught with the drugs.
Downey, who was on bail, waited outside the courtroom as his lawyer Campbell MacCallum requested a trial date for his client yesterday.
Downey was one of scores of Bandidos members at court with one room filled with outlaw motorcycle gang supporters who turned up for the sentence of gang member Leonard David Toalei, who this week pleaded guilty to sparking a siege on Paradise Island. The trial has been listed for the 2nd of April 2013.
