Moloney MacCallum Lawyers Principal, Andrew Moloney, has renewed a plea for the appointment of a third District Court Judge on the Gold Coast.
Southport District Court has a backlog of cases going back more than two years but the Gold Coast will not get another Judge, the state's Chief Judge has ruled. The decision has resulted in an outcry from the local legal fraternity with many labeling it as a bad joke and a step back for Justice on the Gold Coast and in the State of Queensland. The Gold Coast is Australia's sixth largest city.
Gold Coast Bar Association President Bernard Reilly has said that the lack of a full-time third judge on Southport created chaos in managing case flows.
